BELGRADE
Situated in the heart of Balkan Peninsula, at the intersection of roads connecting Eastern and Western Europe, on the outfall of Sava into Danube, Belgrade is surrounded by two natural areas: Pannonian plain on the north and beautiful Sumadija on the south.

Availability:
Belgrade has always been at the crossroads of important European roads, which makes Belgrade very easy to reach: by plane - Belgrade Airport is 20 km far from the city centre, by car – the intersection of E-70 and E-75 roads, by train – the railway network connecting the West and the East, the North and the South, by boat – by sailing down two international rivers - Sava and Danube.

Today, Belgrade is the administrative, political, economic, scientific, university, cultural and diplomatic capital of the Republic of Serbia. It has approximately 2 million residents. Ethnically multinational, the majority is of Serbian nationality and Orthodox religion.

Belgrade
the City of Culture, Inspiration, Sports and Festivals, Serbian capital develops and changes fast, protecting its rich and diverse history within the mixture of culture, architecture and urban spirit. With some of the most attractive locations, Belgrade Fortress – the oldest cultural and historical monument, Skadarlija – the bohemian quarter in the city centre, Knez Mihailova Street; Old and New Royal Court, Federal Parliament, Temple of St. Sava, Zemun and many others, Belgrade makes the cultural centre of South East Europe. Being one of the oldest European cities with the heritage which lasts over 5000 years, Belgrade cherishes the history, landmarks, monuments from the past, traditional art and famous attractions. More than 40 Orthodox and 8 Roman Catholic churches, a mosque and a synagogue, dozens of museums, theatres, libraries, together with various national and international theatre, film, musical and other events, make Belgrade the city with very rich and diverse cultural life.

Belgrade Fortress
is the oldest part and the core section of the city. It overlooks the confluence of the Sava and Danube rivers and that very spot next to the statue Pobednik (The Victor) is the most beautiful lookout in Belgrade. It was gradually built from the 1st to the 18th century as a fortified defense complex. Today the Fortress is a unique museum of Belgrade history.

Belgrade on the river banks
Sava and Danube - The confluence represents the most attractive point under the Belgrade fortress, and along with the Big War Island is a real natural oasis in the heart of a modern city. The river banks never sleep: on numerous boats, restaurants and cafes visitors can have a cup of coffee, eat a fish speciality, listen to music and have fun.

Skadarlija
the old bohemian quarter of Belgrade dates back to late 19th and early 20th century. At that time kafanas (taverns and restaurants) were meeting places for greatest figures of a cultural scene. It is often compared with the Montmartre in Paris, both for its appearance and the cheerful, vigorous artistic atmosphere.

Zemun
Once a separate city, Zemun is nowadays known as a romantic and poetic part of Belgrade. Zemunski kej, is a kilometres long promenade by the Danube, with barges-cafés, amusement park and Grand Casino while the Gardoš Tower is the most recognizable symbol of Zemun. This neighborhood preserved its old looks, with narrow, mostly cobblestoned streets and residential houses.

MICE is growing fast thanks to local partners of Belgrade Convention Bureau, developing infrastructure, and high engagement of industry professionals.

Gastronomy
Serbian cuisine is a mix of Mediterranean, Hungarian, Turkish and Austrian, accompanied by a large diversity of beverages. With over 3.000 restaurants, bars, cafes, clubs and “kafanas” Belgrade offers good value for money with a diverse cousin which includes international and traditional national dishes. At least one meal with fish is a must down in one of the restaurants by the rivers, on the water. But when in town, use the opportunity to try out something typically Serbian, like ćevapčići (small rolls of mixed minced meat), all kinds of grilled meat, gibanica (pastry leaves mixed with eggs, cheese or spinach, or meat), karađorđeva šnicla (meat stake) etc. The famous local alcohol beverage is rakija – especially šljivovica (plum brandy) and lozovača (grappa). As for the wines, there is a wide range of it from Mediterranean and continental types. Probably the best place to try out the local cuisine is Skadarlija – the bohemian quarter.

SERBIA
Serbia has connected West with East for centuries – a land in which civilisations, cultures, faiths, climates and landscapes meet and mingle. It is located in the centre of the Balkan Peninsula, in southeastern Europe. The northern portion belongs to central Europe, but in terms of geography and climate it is also partly a Mediterranean country. Serbia is landlocked but as a Danube country it is connected to distant seas and oceans. Serbia is acrossroads of Europe and a geopolitically important territory. The international roads and railway lines, which run through the country’s river valleys, form the shortest link between Western Europe and the Middle East. From the agricultural regions of the Pannonian Plain in the north, across the fertile river valleys and orchard-covered hills of Šumadija, the landscape of Serbia continues southward, gradually giving way to mountains rich in canyons, gorges and caves, as well as well-preserved forests. Serbia’s beautiful mountains, national parks, rivers and lakes are the perfect location for an active outdoor holiday – from hunting and fishing to extreme sports. Many times during its rich, centuries-long history, Serbia has been at the centre of Europe’s and the world’s attention, out of all proportion to its modest size, economic might and number of inhabitants. Many lessons on bravery, patriotism and the struggle for freedom can be learned wherever you turn in Serbia, as you pass through its cities and regions. The cultural and historical heritage of Serbia begins with prehistoric archaeological sites and its legacy from classical antiquity. Perhaps its greatest riches, though, are in the many mediaeval Serbian churches and monasteries, some of which are included on the UNESCO World Heritage list. All year round, numerous cultural, entertainment, traditional and sporting events are held in Serbia, demonstrating the creative power and spiritual vitality of this country. Today, Serbia is a modern, democratic European country, on the path to membership of the European Union, which a diverse range of visitors – from young backpackers to participants in congresses and fairs – visit every day. Statistically, the most-visited tourist destinations are the cities of Belgrade and Novi Sad, the mountains of Kopaonik and Zlatibor and the spa towns of Vrnjačka Banja and Sokobanja.
